Nextdoor

Organizations across the country supported the 2020 Census. We regularly featured some of them here, looking at who they are and why an accurate census was so important to them.

Organization Name: Nextdoor

Headquarters: San Francisco

About: Nextdoor is a neighborhood hub for making trusted connections and exchanging information, goods, and services. Its online platform provides a way for governments and public service providers to directly engage with communities to build stronger neighborhoods.

Elected officials and public agencies—including mayors, governors, fire departments, police departments, and health departments—use Nextdoor to share critical, up-to-date information at the neighborhood level, such as alerts about fires, power outages, road closures, community meetings, and more.

Nextdoor helped spread the word about the 2020 Census by sending census messages to its 15,000 public agency partners throughout the spring and summer. These messages, shared on partners' Nextdoor business pages, encouraged the public to respond to the 2020 Census.

Nextdoor also updated its community guidelines to support the 2020 Census. A new policy banned any content that has discouraged people from responding to the count or misled them about the time, place, methods, or requirements for participating.

"Everything we do at Nextdoor is built around our belief in the power of the neighborhood and providing a platform that serves all individuals that make up our communities. We are thrilled to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to build stronger communities everywhere."

—Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar
